September Recap

September brought fresh starts, new friends, and a whole lot of laughter as Y.E.T.I. jumped back into the school year. From first hikes to rock climbing days, here’s a look at how we got things rolling:

Back in Action

We kicked off the year with staff training and school recruiting. Tabling at schools was a blast! Youth ran up to our table, hugged staff, and shouted to their friends about how cool Y.E.T.I. is. Teachers kept saying, “the students are already asking when Y.E.T.I. is coming back.” That energy carried right into our first hikes.

Twin Falls with Phenomenal She

We teamed up with Phenomenal She for a hike to Twin Falls. The group made it down to the water, where one young person slipped in and instantly started joking about “saving their AirPods.” Everyone was cracking up, and it turned into one of those stories that just sticks.

Walker Preserve Vibes

Walker Preserve was the spot for a lot of first Y.E.T.I. trips:

  • Pacific Middle School had its first club hike of the year! Youth ran the trails, balanced on logs, raced goldfish in the creek, and climbed a huge maple tree. They kept talking about future trips, especially kayaking and biking.
  • Sylvester Middle School was full of play: games, water time, more goldfish races, and (of course) tree climbing.
  • Glacier Middle School’s first trip back was pure joy. Returning students sprinted to hug staff, hyped up new members with stories from last year, and shared how grateful they were for Y.E.T.I. Youth splashed in the creek, rubbed moss on their faces, and even protected spiders along the trail.

Seahurst Park Adventures

Seahurst Park was a favorite this month! Students practiced reading maps, navigating trails, and even tackled a mud pit. They rinsed off in the creek, hung out at the beach, and climbed trees before heading back. Other groups joined for hikes and time by the water, enjoying the fresh air and outdoor exploration.

Climbing + Hiking at Exit 38

Last Saturday was a big day! A couple of students from Evergreen High School wanted to learn how to lead climb, so we opened the trip up to other students and a few parents, making it a fun mixed group. Meanwhile, another group hiked up to Dirty Harry’s Balcony, paused for a picnic with a view, and spent the afternoon playing by the river.

The Big Picture

September reminded us why the start of Y.E.T.I. season is so special. Old friends came back, new youth joined in, and everyone jumped right into adventure, whether it was splashing in creeks, climbing big trees, or making each other laugh the whole way down the trail.
