October Recap

October brought crisp air, colorful leaves, and plenty of time outside! Y.E.T.I. Clubs and our partner programs spent the month hiking, climbing, kayaking, fishing, and just having fun together.

Hiking Highlights

Sylvester Middle School went on multiple hikes at Marine View Park and Lake Fenwick. Students challenged themselves, one even on their very first hike! Map time with Wes was a hit, and they loved spotting animals, running along the boardwalk, and playing games.

Glacier Middle School hit Seahurst Park and Salmon Creek. They geocached, played with sticks, found caterpillars, and navigated streams and mud pits together.

Maritime High School practiced map skills at Saltwater State Park and got curious about the world around them.

Pacific Middle School hiked Marine View Park and Salmon Creek Ravine, diving into maps with Wes and soaking up the outdoors.

Showalter Middle School had multiple hikes at Marine View Park, Lincoln Park, and Saltwater State Park. Students built forts, climbed dirt walls and trees, and had fun on the beach while exploring the trails.

Cascade View Elementary loved Seahurst Park, playing on the beach and finishing the month with a scavenger hunt.

Foster High School and Mt. Rainier High School hit Saltwater State Park, with Foster climbing trees and Mt. Rainier going on their very first Y.E.T.I. Club hike.

There were two open recreation hikes! One weekend, we hiked the Talus Rocks Loop and explored a giant cave, mushrooms, licorice ferns, slugs, and played group juggle with an orange. Another weekend, we went to Rattlesnake and practiced using maps, hiked to Rattlesnake Ledge, and hung out by the lake.

Climb Time

Sylvester Middle School climbed at Camp Long, cheering each other on and trying new routes.

Foster High School climbed at Camp Long and Exit 38, celebrating each other’s progress and having tons of fun outdoors.

Glacier Middle School learned to belay at Camp Long and supported each other every step of the way.

Maritime High School climbed at Exit 38, building confidence and climbing skills.

There was an open recreation trip that hiked up to Gritscone at Exit 38 for climbing adventures.

Bike Trips

Maritime High School biked at North SeaTac Park, putting their skills to work.

There was an open recreation trip that biked the Snoqualmie Tunnel with students from Foster High and several middle schools. They had a quiet moment in the dark, then slid down a nearby sled hill, laughing and cheering the whole way!

Kayaking Days

Partners in Employment (PIE) paddled around Angle Lake on a calm, sunny day.

There was an open recreation kayak trip for middle and high schoolers, where they played follow-the-leader games and had a total blast together.

Fishing Fun

Pacific Middle School fished at Angle Lake, welcomed new students, and gave out prizes for the 3 R’s (respect yourself, respect others, and respect the environment). Evergreen High School also joined in for some extra fishing fun.

Glacier Middle School spent a peaceful time fishing at Angle Lake.

Mt. Rainier High School celebrated Ivan catching a fish and got some pro tips from other anglers.

Maritime High School fished at Angle Lake, catching t-shirts and seaweed along the way

Sylvester Middle School finished the month with more calm lakeside fishing.

Phenomenal She hiked and fished at Seward Park, then hit the swings, proving swings are fun no matter your age.

The Big Picture

October was full of laughs, challenges, and teamwork. Students pushed themselves on hikes, cheered each other on while climbing, paddled and fished together, and made the most of fall outside.
