Frequently Asked Questions:

To ensure that no one is excluded from Y.E.T.I. adventures, there are no registration fees for any of our activities. While participation comes at no cost, we do offer an optional donation opportunity for those who would like to support Y.E.T.I. and help keep our programs accessible. Registration is completed in the same way, whether or not you choose to make a donation.

Y.E.T.I. has outlined essential eligibility requirements for participants in all of our activities. These serve as a baseline of what a student must be able to do in order to participate. Please review the essential eligibility requirements at goyeti.org/eec. If your student is not able to meet these requirements, we encourage you to reach out so we can brainstorm a reasonable accommodation or find a trip that aligns with their abilities. We do this to ensure that all young people can participate safely.

Y.E.T.I. has a “Gear Library,” so every student can borrow what they need at no cost. This is made possible by generous donations to our programs. Please see goyeti.org/gearlist for more information.

Typically, students should bring:

  • Closed-toed shoes with good tread*
  • A small day backpack
  • Two water bottles
  • Sunglasses*
  • A warm jacket
  • A waterproof rain jacket with a hood (depending on the weather)

Please let us know in advance if they need an item marked with a *.

Most Y.E.T.I. activities do not require any experience. We practice “challenge by choice,” which means that no student will be required to participate in an activity they are uncomfortable with. If students do choose to challenge themselves in a new way, all of our instructors are trained to support them. Activities that do require some experience will describe the type and amount of experience necessary in the description.

We encourage students to disconnect from technology and connect with the outdoors and each other. Students can leave their phones in the Y.E.T.I. van. Please note that phones and other electronics can easily get lost or damaged in environments like snow, water, and rough terrain. It is the student’s responsibility to protect their belongings and ensure they are kept safe during the trip.

All Y.E.T.I. staff complete safety and group facilitation training in each activity they lead regardless of their previous experience. This includes obtaining a Wilderness First Aid certification and assisting on several adventures before leading their own.
