May Recap

May brought sunshine, new adventures, and the return of some favorite activities. From paddling across lakes to hiking with a purpose, here’s what our Y.E.T.I. Clubs were up to this month:

Kayaking Adventures

Middle schoolers from Pacific, Sylvester, Glacier, and Showalter all had kayaking days at Angle Lake, playing games like red light–green light and battleship on the water. Cascade View Elementary also enjoyed a special early release paddle. High school students from Foster and Evergreen ended the month paddling on Lake Sammamish.

Biking Trails

Cascade View Elementary and Glacier Middle hit the pump track and dirt trails at North SeaTac Park. Meanwhile, high schoolers and Pacific Middle School students biked the Palouse to Cascades Trail through the Hyak tunnel, pausing to experience total darkness in the middle.

Climbing + Rappelling

Evergreen and Foster High Schools went to the Deception Crag, taking on rock climbing and rappelling. Showalter Middle School tried climbing at Kenticle. Students from Glacier, Sylvester, and Showalter Middle Schools hiked up to Dirty Harry’s Trailhead and rappelled down the Gritscone.

Hiking

  • Students from Hilltop Elementary ventured to Twin Falls.
  • Beverly Park Elementary explored Denny Creek.
  • Foster and Evergreen High Schools hiked through Marine View Park to the beach.
  • Pacific Middle School visited both Seahurst and Marine View Parks.
  • Glacier and Showalter Middle Schools spent a day hiking at Lincoln Park.
  • Evergreen High School students also trained for Mount Adams with hikes at Margaret’s Way and Discovery Park.
  • Cascade View and Sylvester Elementary explored Marine View and Seward Park.
  • Maritime Middle School closed the month with a nature scavenger hunt hike at North SeaTac Park.

Fishing + Tidepooling

Showalter Middle School explored tide pools and fished off the Des Moines Pier. Students from Foster High School fished at Angle Lake, learned to gut fish, and even took home filets (shoutout to Guled!). Pacific Middle School students also relaxed lakeside, casting their lines under the spring sun.
